UPSC Stenographer Exam Tips: UPSC SO / Steno Exam 2021 exam is released by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). This exam will be conducted on 11th December 2021. This exam is for those candidates who want to become Section Officer (SO) and Stenographer Grade B/Grade 1. SO/Steno (GD-B/GD-I) LDCE. It is a national level exam which is conducted once in a year.

UPSC SO/Stenographer Exam Pattern

  1. It is very important for the candidates to know the exam pattern for better preparation of this exam.
  2. This entrance exam will be conducted in offline mode i.e. pen and paper mode.
  3. This test paper is divided into three different papers.
  4. Both Paper 1 and Paper 2 contain Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) and Paper 3 consists of subjective type questions.
  5. The question paper is in English as well as in Hindi language. While applying for the exam candidates have to fill their preference whether they will take the test in Hindi language or in English.
  6. There is negative marking in this exam. 1/3 (0.33) marks will be deducted for each wrong answer.
  7. Candidates have 120 minutes for both the objective paper and 180 minutes for the subject paper.
  8. Candidates who clear the written test are assessed for service record, which is of 100 marks.

Paper – I
Constitution of India, Rules and Procedure for conduct of business in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, Organization in the machinery of Government of India, Designation and allocation of subjects among Ministries, Departments, Attached and Subordinate Offices and RTI Act 2005.

Paper – II
Manual of Office Procedure, Notes on Office Procedure issued by Institute of Secretarial Training and Management, Central Civil Services (Pension Rules), issued by Ministry of Home Affairs only (for Category I and IV) regarding use of Hindi for official purpose of the Union Handbook of orders. Fundamental and Supplementary Rules (Compilation of AGP&T, Compilation of Chowdhury, Compilation of Swamy. Central Civil Services (Conduct) Rules, Central Civil Services (Leave) Rules, Compendium of General Financial Rules (amended and enhanced), Financial Power Rules) Central Civil Services (Classification, Control and Appeal) Rules and Intelligence Bureau Standing Orders (for Category VIII only).

Paper-III

  1. In this candidates have to prepare notes and drafts on specific problems and get accurate information from a passage.
  2. First make a study plan. Paper-1 is based on General Studies and General Knowledge, carrying 150 marks. Similarly, Paper-2 is based on the procedures and practices of the Secretariat of the Government of India. Make sure you have a deep understanding of the fundamentals, concepts and basics of these topics.
  3. Use flow charts and diagrams to understand the secretariat’s government procedures and similar functions.
  4. Use other resources like practice papers, readymade notes, reference books etc. apart from guides and preparation books for exam preparation.
  5. Solve previous year question papers to crack the exam. In this way you will get an idea about the pattern of questions.
  6. Candidates can also solve mock tests and sample papers to enhance their practice. Try to solve mock tests within the given duration for each paper.
  7. Make short notes for last minute exam preparation. Revise through these notes a few days before the exam.
  8. Make notes of everything, add tags and sticky notes. Make sure to revise daily, so that there is no chance of forgetting the topic.
  9. Improve the topic which you remember and work on the weak topic also. Pay special attention to time management.
